SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Mission Housing is proud to announce that we have been selected as a recipient of San Francisco’s Community Challenge Grants (CCG), a citywide initiative supporting community-led neighborhood improvement projects.

This year, the City of San Francisco awarded more than $3.3 million in funding to 25 projects focused on beautifying public spaces, strengthening neighborhood connections, and creating vibrant, welcoming environments for residents.

“From murals and gardens to clean-ups and cultural events, our Community Challenge Grants help residents and organizations improve their neighborhoods,” said Mayor Daniel Lurie, emphasizing the importance of community-driven projects across the city. [Read full press release]

Through this grant, Mission Housing will collaborate with key community partners—including Mission Graduates, Asociación Mayab, Youth Art Exchange, the University of San Francisco, and renowned artists, Vanessa "AGANA" Espinoza, Joseph Lopez and Sergio de la Torre —to help bring an artistic transformation to Wiese Alley along 16th Street—an effort rooted in community voice, creativity, and shared stewardship.

Part of our long-term San Francisco Revival initiative, the Wiese Alley artistic transformation centers on youth empowerment and encourages the community to reshape the narrative about this public street, which runs between two of Mission Housing's affordable housing buildings, so that it becomes a vibrant, welcoming space where neighbors can feel safe to live, work, and connect.

At Mission Housing, we are excited to be part of a broader movement to invest in neighborhoods and uplift community leadership.

“We’re excited to work with multiple community organizations, artists, parents, students, and local residents on 16th Street to help steward an artistic transformation along Wiese Alley.”— Fátima Ramirez, Fund Development Manager.

The Community Challenge Grants program, established in 1991, empowers residents and organizations to turn their ideas into meaningful, lasting improvements in their neighborhoods.

Mission Housing looks forward to working alongside our partners and neighbors to bring this vision to life and contribute to a more connected, vibrant Mission District.
