Mission Housing launches San Francisco Revival initiative with "Revival on the Bay"

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2025) – With over 200 people gathered aboard The San Francisco Spirit, Mission Housing Development Corporation hosted a kickoff event for its new initiative, The San Francisco Revival. As the cruise liner coasted across the Pacific waters at sunset, some San Francisco’s most dedicated leaders and advocates across various for- and non-profit sectors came together as Mission Housing unveiled the multi-phase effort aimed at reclaiming San Francisco’s narrative through four pillars: affordable housing, youth development, public narrative and community empowerment.

"Over the past decade, San Francisco has lost more young people than any other major U.S. city, " said Mission Housing's Community Engagement Director Chirag Bhakta. " This is nearly four times the national average. Generations have been allowed to grow up here, but not grow old here."

This is Mission Housing’s response.

Mission Housing, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affordable housing developer, is launching the San Francisco Revival to showcase the city’s resilience — and the grassroots innovation that can only come from its communities. The initiative envisions vibrant neighborhoods where everyone has secure, affordable, and sustainable housing — and a mission to strengthen communities and build equity through the creation and preservation of service-rich affordable housing.

Attendees and speakers of the event included San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu, NBC Bay Area Reporter Ginger Conejero Saab, Mission Housing Executive Leadership Team, Representatives from San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), and executives from San Francisco Office of Planning, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and many more.

In addition to remarks from David Chiu and Mission Housing executives, the event featured four unique marketing activations for media and guests, Native American celebration by the Calpulli Anahuak group, honoring Ohlone Land, inspiring personal testimonies from Mission Housing leadership, and an unveiling of new programs under the San Francisco Revival initiative.
