Third Information Session Concludes with Community Vote Supporting 112-Unit Phase 3 Building.
San Francisco, Calif. — On Wednesday, June 5, the historic The Women's Building in San Francisco's Mission District once again opened its doors to the community for an important conversation about the future of 1979 Mission Street — The Marvel in the Mission.
The meeting drew a diverse and engaged crowd, including neighbors, members of the Marshall Elementary School community, residents, and community leaders. Attendees came together to hear the latest project updates from Mission Housing Development Corporation and the Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) and their partners.
This gathering marked a significant milestone: the final meeting of the three-part community engagement series, designed to determine the project’s massing. Each session consistently attracted strong interest and participation, ensuring that local voices helped shape the development’s future. The evening’s discussion focused on the comprehensive shade analysis for the future 100% affordable housing development, which will serve families, seniors, and formerly homeless individuals. With enthusiasm for the project, participants voted to move forward with the 112-unit Phase 3 building, underscoring the community’s commitment to housing that meets local needs.
“The incredible participation and input from the community throughout this process have been invaluable. It’s inspiring to see how the vision for “La Maravilla” continues to be shaped by the people of the Mission, and we are all excited to see what the future holds for this important site,” said Mission Housing’s Executive Team of Sam Moss and Marcia Contreras.
Mission Housing extends its deepest gratitude to The Women’s Building for generously hosting the meeting in their vibrant space. The development team is excited to take another step toward building La Maravilla and deeply appreciates the partnership with Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) and the design teams at Mithun and Herman Coliver Locus, whose expertise continues to guide this transformative project.
